Will I die without changing the world?
What you should do if you have big dreams but things look dreary.
This is part 7 of 8 of a series called, “From Nothing to Something.”
In case you missed it, here’s part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
When I was 16, I wanted to change the world.
I didn't know how, so I guess I'd just start with what I did know. I helped improve the lives of my friends and those around me.
It started with one. And then two, and soon it was five. My "network" in high school was small.
As the years progressed, I continued to do what I could to help those I could. By the time I was 20, my influence reached maybe 20 people. After I started working with nonprofits and began to be vocal about my work it grew to 50.
I eventually started a blog because of the feedback I was getting and accumulated 300,000 views in a period of 3 years -- that blog still gets 200 views/day and I haven't written in over 2 years.
I don't know the count anymore.
In July 2014, I started writing on Quora. A couple million views later, we're here today.
The count is beyond what I have ever imagined.
Just start with one.
If you can just change one life, you don't know how many lives will be affected because of your influence.
And then you can change another life. If you did it well, that life will probably affect others down the road.
Rinse, wash, repeat.
Change one life at a time and eventually, you'll reach more than you can count.
